Workday Sept 14

The Berks County Association for Graveyard Preservation will be conducting a ‘piddling’ tombstone repair day on Saturday, September 14, beginning at 9:30. The objective of the day is to make small tombstone repairs that should not be time consuming. We want to reattach pieces before they  are lost. There are 7 graveyards on our list but we likely will not get to all. We will be in Exeter and Oley townships.

The repairs will be done by our trained members. Others are welcome to watch. Depending on the number of people attending we will also do cleanups as needed while the tombstone repairs are being completed. If you want to assist with cleanups string trimmers, loppers, nippers, and gloves will be needed. The cleanups will be partial, only as long as the tombstone repairs are underway.

We will begin at the Young/Kissling graveyard in Exeter. From Jacksonwald at the intersection of Oley Turnpike Rd, Shelbourne Rd, and the Boyertown Pike (Route 562), proceed east on Route 562 toward Boyertown. About 1/3 mile past St Catherine Roman Catholic Church, turn left onto Ritters Rd. The graveyard is up the hill before the sharp bend, easily seen on the right. Parking will probably be best on the right before the graveyard.
